The best preserved Roman ruins in Malta

Roman rule in Malta started in 218 BC when the island became part of the Roman province of Sicilia / Sicily. During this time, Malta was governed as a Roman territory and saw the construction of various buildings, such as villas roads and public baths. The Romans developed the island’s infrastructure and integrated it into their administrative system. Roman rule continued until the fall of the Western Roman Empire in the 5th century AD.

One significant event during this period was the shipwreck of Saint Paul on Malta in AD 60, which is mentioned in the Bible. Saint Paul stayed on the island for three months, preaching and converting locals to Christianity.
