History
St Michael’s Mount is a castle complex in the United Kingdom, in Cornwall, England. The site comprises a castle, chapel, and house on the mount, which rises 28 metres above sea level.
The castle has served as a museum since 1954. In 1987, it became a Grade I listed building, a designation reserved in England for buildings of exceptional architectural or historic interest and the highest level of statutory listing.
The mount stands with the sea to the south. The surrounding terrain is flat to the southeast and hilly to the northwest. Penzance, the nearest larger settlement, lies 4.2 kilometres west of the site.
