History
Château de Rajat is a country residence and events venue in France, located mainly in Saint-Pierre-de-Chandieu in the Rhône department. Lyon bankers built it between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in the Louis XV style, an eighteenth-century French tradition known for refined ornament and curved forms. Although conceived as a country retreat, its appearance resembles that of a substantial historic manor house.
A charitable institution
Until 1975, the Salesians operated a charitable institution at the château for poor children. The Salesians are a Catholic religious congregation founded to educate and assist young people, particularly those facing disadvantage. Their presence gave the estate a social and religious role beyond its original purpose as a private country residence.
Public ownership and current use
In 1975, the Intercommunal Union of Rajat was created to purchase the estate from the Salesian Order, which no longer had the means to maintain it. After the union was dissolved in 2016, the Commune of Saint-Pierre-de-Chandieu took over the estate, château, ancillary buildings, and park. A commune is a municipality forming the basic level of local government, and Saint-Pierre-de-Chandieu remains the current owner.
The estate extends across Saint-Pierre-de-Chandieu in the Rhône department and Heyrieux in the Isère department. Most of the château and grounds lie in Saint-Pierre-de-Chandieu, while the eastern part is in Heyrieux. The departmental boundary crosses the main body of the château and the park along a southwest to northeast axis. The château now serves as an events venue managed by PLACES OF EVENTS, with professional gatherings such as seminars, conventions, and corporate evenings, as well as weddings and other private events.

Château de Rajat occupies a 20-hectare estate organized around a large residence, ancillary buildings, and an extensive park. The main building combines the scale and appearance of a substantial manor house with the character of a relatively recent country retreat. Its grounds include diverse species of century-old trees, while later additions have expanded the estate’s reception facilities.

Main building
The château’s principal structure is flanked on both sides by two square turrets. Its Louis XV appearance provides the architectural character of the residence, whose four reception rooms have a stated capacity of more than 150 people. The building remains part of the wider estate taken over by the Commune of Saint-Pierre-de-Chandieu in 2016.
Park and orangery
The surrounding park forms part of the 20-hectare estate and is planted with a variety of century-old trees. An orangery, a structure originally intended to shelter citrus and other tender plants from cold weather, was added in 2019 and is used as a reception space.
