History
Château de Castegens is a castle in Belvès-de-Castillon, France, whose main residential building dates from the fourteenth century. The building was remodeled in the fifteenth century and fortified in the sixteenth, giving the site a history of successive residential and defensive changes.
Between 1863 and 1868, Simard de Pitray added new vat rooms, spaces for handling and fermenting grapes or wine, together with wine cellars used for storage and aging. These additions introduced facilities connected with winemaking into the castle complex.
Château de Castegens has been registered as a French historic monument since 19 April 1996. This status forms part of France’s legal heritage-protection system, recognizing the property’s heritage importance and providing statutory protection.
