History
Houtain-le-Val Castle is a medieval castle in Belgium, located in Houtain-le-Val in the municipality of Genappe, Wallonia. The first castle on the site is believed to have been built in 1129 by Walter de Holton, identified as the first lord of Houtain. It was originally intended as a private residence for the Hautain family.
The castle was restored in 1850, when two small towers were added to the building. Its present owners are descendants of the Count of Moerkerke, a high-ranking European noble title associated here with Moerkerke. A further restoration campaign took place in 2018–2019.
