History
Kungsholms Fort is a Swedish fortification in Sweden, built in 1680 to defend the southern approach to Karlskrona, a Swedish naval city on the Baltic coast. Located on the western side of Tjurkö, about 5 kilometres east of Karlskrona, it served as both a naval base and a defensive installation.
Together with Drottningskär Castle on the opposite side of the strait between Tjurkö and Aspö, the fort protected a maritime route approximately 1,200 metres wide. Its distinctive harbour is circular and has a narrow opening to the sea, combining a sheltered naval space with access to the surrounding waters.
