History
Wołów Castle is a Piast castle in Wołów, Lower Silesia, Poland. The Piasts were a Polish ruling dynasty, and the castle was probably built in the early fourteenth century on the orders of Conrad I, Duke of Głogów. His responsibility for its construction is disputed.
The castle was rebuilt in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. A fire destroyed it in the early eighteenth century, after which it was rebuilt between 1714 and 1725. Smaller alterations continued through the end of the nineteenth century.
In the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries, the interiors were adapted for office use, changing their original residential character. The building now houses the Wołów County Office and was entered in Poland’s register of historic monuments in 1993.
