History

Castillo Concejuelo is an automobile museum in Spain, established in 1978 in a renovated tower house at Concejuelo de Galdames in Biscay, within the Basque Country. The site’s purpose is to preserve and display historic automobiles, with the museum complex bringing together vehicles from the late nineteenth century through the twentieth century.

Museum Buildings and Display Areas

The museum occupies a renovated tower house and extends across three pavilions. Together, these spaces contain a collection of 75 automobiles. The displays include early touring and runabout cars, formal vehicles, sports saloons, limousines, convertibles, and a fire engine, presenting a broad range of vehicle forms within the complex.

Automobile Collection

Rolls-Royce Vehicles

Rolls-Royce, a British luxury automobile marque known for high-end road cars and formal coachbuilt vehicles, forms the largest represented marque, with 45 cars. The collection includes the 1910 Silver Ghost Roi Des Belges, the 1914 Silver Ghost Alpine Eagle, the 1921 Silver Ghost 40-50 HP and Silver Ghost, and the 1922 Silver Ghost Springfield Cabrio. Later Silver Ghost examples include cars from 1923, the 1924 Springfield Limousine, the 1925 Springfield Sedanca, and the 1926 Silver Ghost Tilbury. Other cars from the 1920s are the 1926 Phantom I Landalette/Sedanca, 20 HP Doctor’s Coupe, 1927 Phantom I Doctor’s Coupe, 1928 Phantom I Cabrio Aluminio, 1928 20 HP Cabrio, and 1929 Phantom I Springfield.

The later Rolls-Royce vehicles include the 1930 Phantom II Cabrio Aluminio, 1932 Phantom II S Coupe Continental, 1933 Phantom II Limousine, 1934 20/25 Sport Saloon and 20/25 Cabrio, 1936 Phantom III Limousine and Phantom III Sedanca, 1937 25/30 Berlina, and 1939 Wraith Berlina. Post-war examples are the 1948 Silver Wraith I 4P. Sport Saloon, 1953 Silver Wraith Sedanca, 1954 Silver Wraith, 1955 Silver Dawn, the 1956 Phantom IV, 1957 Silver Cloud I Berlina, 1958 Silver Wraith, 1960 Silver Cloud II, 1961 Phantom V, 1962 Silver Cloud II, 1966 Silver Cloud III, 1970 Phantom VI and Silver Shadow Coupe, 1972 Corniche, 1975 Camargue, 1979 Silver Shadow II, 1980 Silver Wraith II, 1984 Silver Spirit, and 1990 Silver Spur. The rare 1956 Phantom IV was originally owned by Abdullah III Al-Salim Al-Sabah, a ruler of Kuwait whose title, Hakim, means ruler or governor in several Islamic political traditions.

Other Vehicles

The remaining displays include an 1899 Allen Runabout, a Buick Model 5 from 1908, a 1908 De Dion-Bouton, a 1911 Renault Tourer, and two 1914 Ford vehicles, a Model T and a T Tourer Race. The collection also contains a 1922 Fiat 501 Torpedo, a 1935 Bentley 3.5 Litre, a 1936 BMC fire engine, a Delaunay-Belleville 10 HP Roy Des Belges, and a convertible made by Wolseley Motors Limited.
