History

Burg Uda is a medieval castle ruin in Oedt, a district of Grefrath in Germany, built around 1300 as a lowland stronghold. The castle had the social rank of a count, a high-ranking nobleman who could hold land, exercise authority, and maintain fortified residences.

Unlike a hilltop fortress, Burg Uda stood on relatively level, low-lying ground. Its surviving remains consist of a round tower and foundation remains, preserving part of the castle’s medieval structure. Burg Uda is designated as an architectural heritage monument in North Rhine-Westphalia.
