History

Kaggeholm Manor is a historic estate on Helgö island in Lake Mälaren, Sweden. Construction of its Baroque manor house began in the 1720s, following designs by Swedish architect Nicodemus Tessin the Younger.

The estate before the manor house

The farm was first mentioned in a land-title document in 1287. During the sixteenth century, it belonged to members of the Grip and Bååt families. In 1647, Swedish count Lars Kagg acquired an estate on Helgö and named it Kaggeholm.

Later changes and uses

Major alterations in the mid-nineteenth century gave Kaggeholm Castle its present appearance. The Swedish Pentecostal Movement later used the manor as a training center for Kaggeholm College, a folk high school, an educational institution distinct from a conventional secondary school. The estate now operates as a conference center managed by Swedish property-development company Sisyfosgruppen Holding.

Remains

The manor house, also known as Kaggeholm Castle, is the principal architectural feature of the estate.
