History
The Tower of Zlatko is a medieval defensive tower in North Macedonia, probably built around 1365 as part of Kratovo’s fortified defenses. A defensive tower was a fortified vertical structure used to help protect and watch over a settlement. The Tower of Zlatko was one of the city’s 12 defensive towers and has been designated a cultural monument within Macedonia’s cultural heritage.
The tower stands in Kratovo’s city center between another defensive tower and the Clock Tower. It has a square plan measuring 6.30 by 6.50 meters and rises 14.15 meters. Its technical description identifies three stories, while its internal arrangement is described as having lower and upper ground-level sections followed by two additional floors. The original entrance was on the eastern side, but numerous reconstructions moved it to its present position on the northern side.
