History
Selçuk Hatun Mosque is an Ottoman-period mosque in Edirne, Türkiye, commissioned in 1456 by Selçuk Hatun. Built within the Ottoman architectural tradition, it began as a masjid, a small Islamic prayer building, and continues to serve as a place of Sunni Muslim worship.
After the death of the mosque’s imam, İbrahim Halife, his bequeathed savings financed the addition of a minbar, the pulpit used for the sermon during congregational prayer, especially on Friday. This change converted the building from a small prayer structure into a full mosque where Friday prayers could be held.
A comprehensive restoration in 2003 rehabilitated the mosque for religious use and protected its historic elements from deterioration. The building was reopened for worship and remains active.
