History
Gate Spur “Wola Justowska” is a small fortified guardhouse in Kraków, Poland, built in 1907–1908 as part of Kraków Fortress, the defensive system surrounding the city. Associated with Kościuszko Fort, it served the “Wola Justowska” gate positioned across Królowej Jadwigi Street. Its main purpose was to shield the garrison defending the passage from enemy fire.
The building is listed in Kraków’s municipal heritage inventory under registration number A-1627, dated 13 July 2023. This status recognizes the surviving structure as part of the city’s former fortified landscape.

The gate spur stands in Kraków’s Zwierzyniec district at 124d Królowej Jadwigi Street. It was designed as a compact defensive building placed near the gateway and incorporated both accommodation and protective features into its structure.

Garrison accommodation
The interior contained living quarters for the garrison, including separate rooms for officers, together with a toilet. These facilities reflect the building’s role as a staffed guardhouse rather than only an isolated defensive shelter.
Fortified construction
The structure was built from limestone and brick, with loopholes set into its walls for defensive use. An earth embankment covered and additionally protected the exterior walls, helping absorb the force of projectiles. Grass camouflage on the roof further concealed the building within its surroundings.
