History
Ein al-Rashid Caravanserai is an Ilkhanid-period roadside inn in Iran, built during the rule of the Mongol Ilkhanid dynasty in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. Caravanserais provided lodging and services for travelling caravans, making this complex part of the network that supported movement through the region.
The caravanserai stands 2 kilometres north of Qasr-e Bahram Caravanserai, between the Salt Lake and the Great Kavir. Its exterior measures 86 metres in length and reaches up to 47 metres in width. Two large courtyards form part of the complex.
During the twentieth century, Ein al-Rashid Caravanserai was registered among Iran’s national monuments under registration number 404.
