History
Château de Scharrachbergheim is a fortified castle in France, founded in the thirteenth century. Designed as both a defended residence and a stronghold, it combined residential and military functions. The castle changed hands among numerous families during its history, before the Leopold family acquired the estate after Baron Charles-Philippe Leopold purchased it.
The castle’s facades and roofs have been protected since 1982, when it was registered as a French historic monument. This registration is a formal heritage-protection status applied to a building or specified parts of it.
