History

Bourchier Tower, also known as Bourchier’s Castle, is a Norman-style towerhouse in Ireland, located at Loughgur in County Limerick on the shores of Loch Gur. A towerhouse is a compact fortified residence organized around a tall tower. The building is four storeys high and was constructed from rubble stone.

The tower was associated with Henry Bourchier (1587–1654), an Anglo-Irish aristocrat, major landowner, royalist, and holder of the hereditary title 5th Earl of Bath. Bourchier Tower belongs to Ireland’s group of historic castles and now survives in ruins.
