History

Cayla Castle Museum is a historic residence in France, whose origins as a hunting lodge date to the 15th century. Altered in the 18th and 19th centuries, it became a country manor during the first half of the 19th century.

The château belonged to the family of Maurice de Guérin, a French prose writer and poet, and was later converted into a museum devoted to him and his sister Eugénie, a French diarist and writer, as well as to literature and painting. Also known as the Eugénie and Maurice de Guérin Museum, it is owned by the Tarn Departmental Council, the elected governing body of the Tarn department. After being managed by a public institution, the museum came under the department’s direct management in January 2021.
