History

Sts. Peter and Paul Church is a fourteenth-century medieval Orthodox church in Edessa, Greece, located in the traditional Varosha quarter. Dedicated to Peter and Paul, two major early Christian apostles associated with the foundation and spread of Christianity, it remains an active place of worship.

The church belongs to the Edessa–Pella–Moglena Diocese and the Edessa ecclesiastical deanery under the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople. A diocese is an ecclesiastical territory governed by a bishop, while a deanery is a smaller regional grouping of churches. The Ecumenical Patriarchate is a senior institution within the Eastern Orthodox Church.

The church contains wall paintings dating from 1375 to 1385. In 1934, it was declared a cultural monument, recognizing its historical and artistic value while it continued to serve its religious community.
