History

Karacabey Grand Mosque is a historic Ottoman mosque in Karacabey, Türkiye. Sultan Murad I commissioned it during his reign from 1362 to 1389, establishing a place of worship that has remained associated with the district’s religious heritage.

The mosque was repaired during the reign of Abdülhamid I, the Ottoman sultan who ruled from 1774 to 1789. It later burned during the Greek occupation, adding another major disruption to its history.

The General Directorate of Foundations, the Turkish state institution responsible for conserving many historic religious properties, restored the mosque in 1964. A fire broke out during restoration work in 2012 and severely damaged much of the historic building.
