Babylonian History and Surviving Sites

Babylonian history spans successive kingdoms in southern Mesopotamia, with Babylon becoming a major royal and religious center. Kings rebuilt temples, fortified cities and raised ziggurats: stepped brick platforms supporting shrines. Kassite rulers also established a royal center at Dur-Kurigalzu, while later Neo-Babylonian kings transformed Babylon and nearby Borsippa.

The sites collection connects these histories with excavated structures and surviving brickwork. Articles distinguish original remains, later rebuilding and modern reconstruction.
