Korean Kingdoms and Dynasties

Baekje and Silla were rival kingdoms with their own royal capitals and major Buddhist foundations. Goryeo later governed from Kaesong, followed by Joseon with its court in Seoul. Their surviving places preserve the movement of royal centers and the rebuilding of palaces, temples and fortifications across the peninsula.

Stone pagodas preserve parts of early temple complexes, while many standing wooden halls belong to later rebuilding. The combined sites map brings these periods together and allows Baekje, Silla, Goryeo and Joseon to be explored separately. Individual articles explain the buildings within each kingdom’s or dynasty’s history.
