Maya History and Surviving Sites
Maya rulers governed distinct kingdoms across southern Mexico and Central America. Their cities developed temple precincts, royal courts and residential neighborhoods, linked with the agricultural land around them. Inscriptions recorded rulers and dynastic events, while reservoirs and other waterworks supported settlements in contrasting environments.
The surviving-site collection includes the monumental centers of Tikal, Uxmal and Palenque alongside smaller settlements. Articles explain the buildings, their changing uses and the archaeological evidence for life beyond the royal court.
