History

Gabrabad Caravanserai is a Safavid-period caravanserai in Iran, located on the route between Qamsar and Kashan. A caravanserai was a roadside lodging complex that served traveling merchants, pilgrims, officials, and their animals. The building belongs to the era of the Safavid dynasty, which ruled Iran from the early sixteenth to the early eighteenth century and promoted a centralized Iranian state and Twelver Shiite Islam.

Gabrabad Caravanserai was registered as a national monument of Iran on 15 Shahrivar 1354 under registration number 1095. In 2023, it became part of the Iranian Caravanserais serial property inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. This property includes 54 historic caravanserais across 24 Iranian provinces and was inscribed under cultural criteria (ii) and (iii), with registration number 1668.
